When I went to film school at Columbia College in Chicago, I had no idea what I actually wanted to do. I only enrolled to get my parents off my back. While there, I thought I wanted to be an editor, but realized it involved too much time in dark rooms. My skin is already pale. If I spent anymore time in the dark, I'd be transparent and that wouldn't have been good for my dating life at the time. Then I wanted to be a director, but it felt like too much responsibility. I did NOT have my shit together (I was a 19 year old in a rock band - responsibility was my nemesis). Finally, I gave a screenwriting class a shot - and I fell in love.
